I Got The Belt Once Or Twice
My Dad didn't liked to be called
"father" or "pops".
That dear man taught me so much
and to me he was tops!

I do pray that your Dad is a God-fearing man
each and every day.
If he is you will learn a lot about
our Lord I'm blessed to say.

My Dad was my hero even though
I felt the sting of his belt once or twice.
Of course I deserved it  for lying
which was becoming a vice.

Dad also knew when I was smoking
or going to parties with alcohol to drink.
I never knew how Dad always seemed to know
what I had done - a direct line from God is what I think.

My Dad loved me so very much;
that love from God was surely sent.
When the Lord called him home, I found out
how much I loved him and all that he meant.
